The shrine is located on a hill at Tirumala, a cluster of seven hills known as Seshachalam or Venkatachalam with an elevation of 853m. It is said to be the richest temple in the world. There is an interesting story behind that why people visit Tirupati. Venkateshwara taken a loan of one crore and 14 lakh coins of gold from Kubera (Wealth God) and had Viswakarma for the arrangement of the marriage. And he agreed to repay the interest from the collections of temple at Tirupati, Andra Pradesh State, India. Sri Venkatachala Mahatmayam' contains Puranic lores form the twelve Mahapuranas. There are many more legends about the Venkatachala Hills and Lord Venkateswara in The Varaha and Bhavishyottara Puranas. Tirupati is one of the important pilgrim centres in India.
